The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik—the world’s northernmost capital. With a population of just over 120,000, Reykjavik is also Iceland’s largest city.

During the northern hemisphere’s summer months (June, July, August), it can get pleasantly warm in Iceland—at least on sunny days. Daytime temperatures during this time typically range between 10°C and 15°C. During the winter months (December, January, February), it’s significantly cooler—daytime temperatures hover around freezing and can drop well below 0° at night. In winter, there’s almost always snow on the ground. In summer, the sea is unfortunately too cold for swimming. However, thanks to Iceland’s hot springs, a beach vacation is essentially possible year-round.
