Information about Canada

Canada is a very large country. The greatest east-west distance, from Cape Spear in Newfoundland (UTC-03:30) to the border of the Yukon Territory (UTC-08:00) with the U.S. state of Alaska, is 5,514 kilometers. As a result, there are a total of six different time zones in Canada. Therefore, the time difference between Canada and Germany cannot be calculated as a flat rate.

Daylight Saving Time in Canada

Almost all of Canada observes daylight saving time during the summer months, just like Germany. On the second Sunday in March, clocks are set forward one hour at 2 a.m. local time—marking the start of daylight saving time. Daylight saving time ends in Canada on the first Sunday in November—clocks are then set back one hour at 2 a.m. But as the saying goes, the exception proves the rule:

In large parts of the province of Saskatchewan, the clocks are not changed—there is no Daylight Saving Time (DST) here. Although Saskatchewan lies within the Mountain Standard Time Zone, Central Standard Time applies here year-round. This means that the clock is set year-round to the same time as during Daylight Saving Time in the Mountain Standard Time Zone.

In Quebec, east of the 63rd meridian, daylight saving time is also not observed. Clocks are set to Atlantic Standard Time year-round.
