Malmö is the capital of the Swedish province of Skåne.

Over 703,920 people live in the Malmö metropolitan area. The city and the metropolitan area have grown significantly since the completion of the Öresund Bridge—and continue to grow. The bridge connects Malmö very closely with the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

The following twelve municipalities are part of the Malmö metropolitan region: Burlöv, Eslöv, Höör, Kävlinge, Lomma, Lund, Malmö, Skurup, Staffanstorp, Svedala, Trelleborg, and Vellinge in Skåne County.
